The African designers at the heart of IKEA’s African ÖVERALLT collection

On 27th February 2019, IKEA will unveil its African ÖVERALLT collection, at the Design Indaba Festival in Cape Town, the result of its collaboration with a group of African artists.

The ÖVERALLT journey started two years ago, when Swedish-founded multinational retailer IKEA, teamed up with a group of designers, architects, artists and creatives from 7 African countries (South Africa, Kenya, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Ivory Coast and Rwanda), to collaborate around modern urban rituals and the importance they play in the home.

IKEA wanted to learn more about the contemporary African design scene and the creative explosion that can be seen in several cities around Africa. Ten designers, all connected to the South African multi-faceted platform Design Indaba and its network, teamed up with five IKEA designers.

The designers from Africa have been contributing with the ideas for the collection, while the designers from IKEA have been guiding the development process.
