Tanzanian Doctor Askwar Hilonga Wins African Innovation Award with Water Filter

Dr. Askwar Hilonga, a nanotechnology specialist at the Nelson Mandela Institute for Science and Technology in Arusha, won on June 1, 2015, the African Innovation Prize awarded by the Royal British Academy of Engineering .

This 38-year-old engineer invented a water filter capable of sorting 99.999% of micro-organisms and chemicals. It took him 4 years and a grant of 8 000 euros paid by my university before he could launch his prototype.

Askwar Hilonga wants to reduce the price of this filter, which is currently sold at 130 USD and is now seeking to promote his invention and create vocations.
