MTN-Benin introduces “MoMoPay”: new mobile payment system

On June 15, 2017, MTN-Bénin (one of Benin’s mobile networks) made available to its subscribers, the MoMoPay, a new payment system, which accelerates the process of monetary transactions.

MTN MoMoPay is a new payment solution that allows users to quickly pay for their purchases using their mobile phones. It is a convenient, secure and easy way to transfer money, purchase credit, pay bills, renew your subscription to Canal Plus services etc.

How does it work ?

This innovation works with a mobile phone and a terminal that is the main device.

To use MoMoPay, you must first create a Mobile Money account, and to do so, simply dial * 400 # from your phone and follow the instructions.

You then have to go to an MNT agency or one of the points of sale located in Cotonou, and claim a “tag” that is free. This tag is then activated and the customer’s MTN Mobile money number is added. The client can now make purchases at one of the acceptors MoMoPay.

Payments are made by bringing the “MoMo Pay tag” closer to the terminal at the point of sale. The customer then receives a notification on his mobile phone which invites him to enter his PIN code. Once the transaction is confirmed, all is played!

300 terminals are being deployed in supermarkets, pharmacies, hotels, restaurants, maquis of Cotonou. (Virgile Toffodji, Director MTN Mobile Money Benin)

In summary, no more worry to be made in terms of availability of currencies. The mobile wallet is now with the customer at all times, and the problems of small currencies that arise after purchases, are no longer on the agenda!
