Serge Ibaka goes back to the restaurant he used to beg for food, but this time, with the Raptors NBA championship trophy

Toronto Raptors star Serge Ibaka, brought the 2019 NBA championship trophy to his home country, the Republic of the Congo.

Ibaka shared a video, on his social media accounts, of him, eating a full meal at a restaurant he used to visit to beg for leftovers some 15 years ago. He returned to eat a full meal along with his dinner companion — the Larry O’Brien trophy.

From begging leftovers 15 years ago to coming back as an NBA Champhion to eat a full meal at the same restaurant in Congo. Sometimes life is like a movie and this script is written by God only… #anythingispossible

Players around the NBA applauded him, including his teammates as well as Houston Rockets superstar James Harden: “That’s right bro, run your Laps!!!,” Harden tweeted.

Basketball, a door out of poverty

Ibaka lost his mother when he was about 8 years old and his father was jailed without charges shortly after the former French colony descended into civil war. He lived on the streets of Brazzaville, sleeping outside on the ground or in cars.

Ibaka began playing organized basketball for Avenir Rail in the Republic of Congo, according to his website.

After he became a star for that team, Ibaka moved to Spain in 2007 and caught the eye of NBA scouts. He was drafted in the first round (24th overall) by the Seattle SuperSonics the next year. He stayed in Spain to develop his basketball skills, before moving to the U.S. in 2009 and played his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Oklahoma Thunder. He got signed to Toronto in 2016, for a three-year $65 million contract.

Hungry Are You?

This year he started his popular How Hungry Are You?  food show where he fed his teammates exotic items such as lamb brain, beef testicles, beef penis and worms. You can check out his videos on his Youtube channel, which has almost 200,000 subscribers.
