Marielle Yasmine Agbahoungbata, winner of the 2017 competition: «My thesis in 180 seconds»

A Beninese doctoral student, Marielle Yasmine Agbahoungbata, won the 2017 edition of the international scientific popularization competition “My thesis in 180 seconds”. The latter received its prize on Friday 28 September at the University of Liège, Belgium.

Marielle studies at the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin. Her thesis focuses on the development of photocatalyst materials based on titanium oxide (TiO2) for the removal of organic micro-pollutants from aqueous media.

«My thesis in 180 seconds»

This was the fourth edition of this international scientific popularization competition, which for this year counted 15 different nationalities. These are: Belgium, Benin, Cameroon, Canada, Ivory Coast, France, Indonesia, Lebanon, Morocco, DR Congo, Romania, Senegal, Switzerland, Tunisia and the United States. It should be noted that seven of the countries represented are on the African continent. That is something to be proud of!

In addition, 15 of the 20 participants were women. This represents 3 of the 5 winners. The public prize was awarded to a French student and a Belgian.

Get ready for the 2018 International Final, which will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland. We hope to have even more African countries!
