Tanzania: Harakati za Lucy, a cartoon that educates young people about sexuality

Harakati za Lucy, an educational methodology that uses modern technology not only to entertain, but also to convey educational messages. 3D animated films and a comic strip were developed around a central character of Lucy.

Harakati Za Lucy was launched by the NGO TAI Tanzania, which aims to support young people in Tanzania by creating awareness, building capacity and engaging in practical work. They were able to convince donors and get the seed money to implement the idea.

The program recently benefited from a $ 6,000 grant through Amua, a project supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

According to UNFPA, the Tanzanian population is made up of 19% of young people aged 15 to 24 years. Which, according to the UN institution poses real problems of insertion of this social layer. Nearly 2,700 young people had training in family planning and reproductive health.

The overall goal of Harakati za Lucy is “to promote gender equality and raise awareness of the responsibility of investing in youth with a focus on adolescent girls in disadvantaged schools.
